The solemn ceremony was held in connection with the adoption of juvenile justice code

The event was opened by the Minister of Justice Tea Tsulukiani, where she noted importance of child rights-oriented Code and she called it the revolutionary step in the history of the Georgian criminal justice. Minister of Justice talked about the merits of the European Union funded project “Support to the Criminal Justice System Reform in Georgia” and the United Nations Childrens Fund – UNICEF, during working process of the code. Tea Tsulukiani focused on importance of preparation of judges, prosecutors, police, social workers and advocates in order to protect the childrens rights matching with high standards.

One of the co-authors of the Juvenile Justice Code, Chairperson of the Supreme Court, addressed the invited guests. Nino Gvenetadze recalled the meetings, discussions and sharing of ideas, which preceded the adoption of the Code. She admitted the precious contribution and selfless efforts of the representatives of Ministry of Justice and the Justice Renate Winter, team leader of EU Funded   project “Support to the Criminal Justice System Reform in Georgia”.

At the meeting the EU ambassador to Georgia Janos Herman, Renate Winter (EU funded project), Sascha Graumann (UNICEF), talked about the Juvenile Justice Code, as the novelty to care for the childs right.

First Deputy of Justice Minister Alexander Baramidze noted that six countries already had expressed desire to share the Georgias experience in this regard.

The importance of proper usage and the execution of the Code were highlighted on the meeting.
