Presentation of HUDOC database with Georgian interface

On December 20, 2018 a presentation of the HUDOC Georgian interface was held at the Supreme Court of Georgia. The European Union and the Council of Europe in cooperation with  the Supreme Court of Georgia and the  Ministry of Justice officially launched  the Georgian interface of the HUDOC case-law database to  mark its 20^th anniversary.  

The event was organized in the framework of EU/CoE joint project “Strengthening the Application of the European Convention on Human Rights in Georgia”. In 2017 a memorandum was signed between the Supreme Court of Georgia, the Ministry of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights in order to provide access to the case-law database of ECHR in the Georgian language. Instructions for the use of the database have been translated into Georgian, together with 45 court decisions and the corresponding summaries prepared. Additionally, analytical units of the Supreme Court of Georgia and Tbilisi City Court translated more than 100 court decisions followed with conclusions.  The Georgian interface joins the existing ones in English, French, Russian, Turkish and Spanish.

Cristian Urse, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia, Mzia Todua, Acting Chief of Justice, Mikheil Sarjveladze, First Deputy Minister of Justice, and Carmen Morte-Gomez, the Head of Division at European Court of Human Rights opened the event.

The event brought together representatives of the international donor organizations, members of the High Council of Justice, judges of the Common Courts of Georgia, prosecutors, lawyers, media and civil society representatives.

The event was organized within the framework of EU/CoE joint project “Strengthening the Application of the European Convention on Human Rights in Georgia” and was funded by EU-CoE Partnership for Good Governance.
