Published: 06/10/2015

Nino Gvenetadze – The chairperson of The Supreme Court and the head of the high council of justice – has met judges from the Region of West Georgia, in 6-7 June, 2015, Batumi, Hotel «Radisson». Designated meeting is the continuation of discussions about legislative changes that should be implemented according to the third stage of judicial reform.

Nino Gvenetadze presented reports, in a discussion mode,  about the legislative amendments in The Organic Law on  “Common Courts of Georgia”;  in the laws on “Disciplinary responsibilities of the judges of Common Courts and disciplinary legal proceedings “,  “High School of Justice”  and «Criteria of cassation complaints in the Supreme Court”.

The report about the draft laws was followed by discussion, during which judges expressed their satisfaction towards the format of the discussion. They noted that the fact that their opinions and positions were shared and heard deserves an appreciation.

The majority of judges noted that, within the high council of justice of Georgia, the necessity of establishing the Institute of Independent Inspector is clear, in order to activate the disciplinary litigation mechanism. Designated institution will serve the objectives of disciplinary proceedings and will create no threats for the independence of judges.

During the discussion of the draft law “High School Of Justice”, the chairperson of The Supreme Court expressed opinion about inclusion of regional judges as experts in the process of training. Judges also presented considerations about problematic legal issues during practical judicial activities.

Designated meetings with Common Courts judges are organized with the support of Project initiated by the European Council - “Strengthening the Independence and Efficiency of the judicial System in Georgia”.

Nino Gvenetadze has held fifth meeting with judges discussing legislative changes scheduled within the third stage of the judicial reform. The next meeting with the judges  from East Regions of Georgia is scheduled in Kvareli - June 12-13.
