The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition Won the Team of the Supreme Court of Georgia

The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the worlds largest moot court competition. In 2013, it is 54th competition and is the most wide-ranging and prestigious event of the year in the International Law sphere, with participants from over 550 law schools in more than 80 countries. 

One team is allowed to participate from every eligible school. Teams prepare oral and written pleadings arguing both the applicant and respondent positions of the case. On September 14, 2012 the worldwide international law students were able to study a hypothetical dispute between the two countries and after this the teams from university and national level are competing for the victory. 2012-2013 seasons Jessup Problem is addressed to the factual and legal consequences of climate change on statehood, migration, and sovereign lending. These are the most actual problem of the modern International Law, the regulation of which does not exist and right now establishment of the framework of legal and state practice is underway.

In September 2012, Tbilisi State University on the basis of interviews and written selection made up the team, which represented it in national round.
The trainer of the team of Ivane Javakhishvili State University is the guest lecturer from the International Law faculty, Ms. Sophie Tsakadze. The Team members are the students from the law faculty: Nikoloz Gigashvili, Natia Zoidze, Elene Mebonia, Ana Rekhviashvili, Ketevan Tsanava.
The Georgian national round held on 16th and 17th of February in the Supreme Court of Georgia. In the final stage met the teams of Tbilisi State University and the Free University. The judges of moot court unanimously declared the team of Tbilisi State University as the winner. TSU’s team had 80-point lead over the team and won the right to represent Georgia at the international round. 

By the organizers of this years competition was established the nominations for best individual and best written report, which was awarded to the Tbilisi State University team. The nomination of the best speaker won the member of the State University team, Mr. Nika Gigashvili. The winners received an internship offer from the non-governmental organizations. The organizers and the invited referees pointed out that 2013 years national competition was remarkable as high-level of preparedness of the students.
