A working meeting on Gender- based Discrimination and Violence against Women

A working meeting on Gender- based Discrimination and Violence against Women was held at the hotel "Lopota Spa Resort" in Kakheti.
The two-day workshop was organized by the EU “Support to the Judicial Reform in Georgia”
Two researches were presented at the meeting chaired by the head of the project "Support to the Judicial Reform in Georgia”, head of UN Children`s Rights Committee, Austrian Justice Renate Winter. The project was prepared by the Research and Analysis Center of Analytical Department of the Supreme Court of Georgia. In particular, the head of analytical department Marina Kvachadze and the staff of the same department Natia Jugheli and Elene Gvinjilia discussed the research practice of discriminatory motives in administrative and civil cases. Also they presented the results of studying domestic violence cases discussed by the first instance courts.
In her speech, psychologist Maya Tsiramua spoke about the paradoxical nature of women victims of domestic violence, the Stockholm syndrome and the cognitive function of stereotypes.
With active involvement of the invited experts in the discussion format, judges discussed the specifics of review of domestic violence cases.
