The Working Meeting held at the Supreme Court on the Issues of Juvenile Justice

On October 19, 2017 the meeting of the scientific- consulting council was held at the supreme Court of Georgia covering the topic “ Practice of Punishment Justification in the Juvenile Justice”. The meeting was organized with approval of EU projects of “Judiciary Support” and “Penitentiary and Probation Support”.
The meeting was presided over by the Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Georgia and the High Council of Justice of Georgia, Ms.Nino Gvenetadze. The meeting was aimed at initiating professional discussions between judges and social workers of the National Probation Agency of Georgia concerning preparation of individual assessment report before sentencing, European standards of punishment justification and existing practice of the field.
Heads of EU projects, Judge Renate Winter and Mr. Randel Barrows made their speeches about preparation of pre-sentence assessment reports and European standards of punishment justification and the best practice.
Local practitioners introduced Georgian experience of the field and discussed particular course of action for practice improvement.
