DELEGATION OF THE HIGHEST INSTANCE DISTRICT COURT OF BREMEN IN THE SUPREME COURT OF GEORGIA

On June 13 of 2016 The Chairperson of the Supreme Court and High Council of Justice Ms. Nino Gvenetadze hosted the delegation of the Highest Instance District Court of Georgia with the support of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ).   Chairperson  of the Highest Instance District  Court of Bremen  Karen Booze,  Deputy Chairman  of the First Instance District Court   of Bremen Hellen Bast    and judge of the  highest Instance District  Court of Bremen  Doctor  Stephen  Haberland  are on the delegation.   

The participants of the meeting were greeted with the welcoming speech given by the Chairperson of the Supreme Court and High Council of Justice Ms. Nino Gvenetadze and the Head of German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ) in the South Caucasus -   Teresa Thalhammer.     

At the meeting Nino Gvenetadze talked about the challenges facing Georgian justice and reviewed the legal changes planned within the frames of the third stage of the judiciary reform. The Chairperson of the Supreme Court and High Council of Justice gave a special emphasis to the issues concerning: the refinement of the rule relating to the appointment of judges;  the process of disciplinary judicial proceedings, implementation of electronic allocation system and publishing of  the Court decisions with due regard to the personal data protection. The Chairperson of the Supreme Court and the High Council of Justice marked, that by adopting the legislative amendments within  the third stage of the reform the planned activities for improving the judiciary system will not be completed, accordingly, she emphasized the importance of working out of the Strategy and Action Plan of Judiciary within   the High Council of Justice.   At the working meeting Nino Gvenetadze gave consideration to the future plans concerning the development of the Court Jury institution  and  on the basis  of the statistical data examples, Nino Gvenetadze also discussed the legal outcome of the cases of juveniles in conflict with the law after entering into force of the Juvenile Criminal Code.             

The Chairperson of the Supreme Court and High Council of Justice Ms. Nino Gvenetadze marked the importance of the active and close cooperation with the German colleagues in the process of development of Justice.  

Within the working meeting format and in the regime of active reporting and discussion, the participants discussed   the peculiarities of the Juvenile Criminal Justice   considering the Georgian and German Legislations and Court Practice. 

Judges of the criminal law specialization and representatives of the Chamber for the Criminal Cases were also participating in the meeting.
