On December 10, 2013, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development presented the report at the “Courtyard Marriot”. Part of the report was devoted to the current developments in the judiciary.
The report strongly criticized the bill about the commission on the Miscarriages of Justice. According to OECD, the violation of law must be eliminated, but it should be implemented with the protection of the fundamental principle of separation of powers and the rule of law. In addition, the report says that existing legislation already provides the possibility for special examination on the basis of newly discovered circumstances or on the any other basis.
The report submitted by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, also criticized the procedure of appointment of judges for a probation period before the life term appointment, and the authors of the report indicate that the lifetime appointment should be also extended to the Supreme Court Judges.
"It is recommended, it should be provided by the law, that the judges that are already appointed do not need to pass the re-appointment procedure, because it is a serious threat to the independence of the judiciary," - it is said in a report published by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.
The presentation was also attended by representatives of international organizations and NGOs, operating in Georgia.
