On October 23, 2012, the First Deputy Chairman Mr. Zaza Meishvili presented the nine-month data of the Supreme Court activity before the international and local NGOs. According to the official statistics, compared to the same period of the previous year, criminal cases filed in the courts of first instance are decreased by 24,3% and the number of prisoners decreased by 4125 persons (that is 31%). Also, the rate of preventive measures decreased: the number of prison sentences is 44.4%, and the number of non-custodial sentences amounted to -55.6%. As to the criminal penalties applied by the court of: according to nine-month period of 2012, 57.7% non-custodial sentences are delivered by the court. In whole, from 9162 convicted persons 3871 were sentenced for imprisonment, concerning 4258 convicted persons were delivered the suspended sentence, 620 persons were fined, 405 persons were involved in socially useful work. Compare with the same period of the previous year, more yet 5.7 persons were involved in socially useful work. The number of acquittal judgments is 9.7% which is delivered by the trials on the merits. According to nine-months period of 2012, in 5007 (28,2%) cases decreased the number of administrative offences and 734 administrative offenders were not imposed responsibility. Among the imposed penalties 79,5% are the non-custodial sentences. The First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court Mr. Zaza Meishvili after the presentation of the statistics invited the guests to answer their questions.
