The Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Georgia and HCoJ Nino Gvenetadze, opened a renovated building of Telavi District Court and Sighnaghi Court, where new wings, intended for the jury trial, were opened last week. Nino Gvenetadze was accompanied by the Secretary of the High Council of Justice of Georgia Giorgi Mikautadze, Chairs of Telavi and Sighnaghi District Courts and the Head of the Department of Common Courts, Shota Qarchava.
The Resident Legal Advisor Michael Grant and members of the High Council of Justice also attended the event.
The reconstruction work in Telavi District Court, for the purpose of enacting the jurors institute, had been conducted by the Department of Common Courts at the High Council of Justice of Georgia.
The armored wall was placed on the entire perimeter of the court. The total area has increased to 600 sq. m. where building occupies 280 sq. m.
The space designated for the jury trial is arranged with the support of the US Department of Justice, taking into consideration modern western approaches, the so-called “Corner Courtroom model” and meets the highest international standards.
The newly built building is equipped with modern technique and appropriate furniture. The total cost of the repair work has amounted to 544704,63 GEL.
The facade of the Sighnaghi District Court building was rehabilitated. The building of the outdoor lighting system was arranged, the existing court building was partially rehabilitated, the damaged roof of the building was changed, in the renovated space of the district court of Signagi four new working rooms were arranged: the court archive (file room), a session hall and a secret record room. Fire alarm was set and a special ramp was arranged for disabled people. The total cost of the project has amounted to 363218,03 GEL.
