The opening ceremony of a new Magistrates Court was held in Borjomi on October 30 at 12:00. The building was opened by the Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Georgia and High Council of Justice. Participants of the ceremony were members of High Council of Justice, representatives of the Common Courts Department, the High School of Justice, the Parliament of Georgia, the Ministry of Justice, the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, Legal Aid Agency, State Attorney-Governor of Borjomi Municipality and government administration. The ceremony was also attended by donor organizations, like EU Commission projects “Criminal Justice Support Program” and “Support to the Judicial Reform in Georgia”, US Embassy, USAID and “Promoting Rule of Law in Georgia” (PROLoG) representatives.
The Magistrates’ Court was placed in an old building that had not been repaired since 80-ies. Based on the decision of the Supreme from October 3, 2016 the Department of Common Courts started construction of a new building for Magistrates’ Court that was finished on August 30, 2017. The final cost of the building equals to 678129,87 Gel and the total area it takes is 520 sq.m. The building includes conference hall, rooms for court administration and judges, patrol and record office and attorney/client conference rooms. The court building main entrance hall has wheelchair access.
