On June 24 of 2016 judge of the Chamber of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court, Paata Silagadze delivered a report at the presentation of the joint program of UNICEF and UNDP. The program is being fulfilled with the support of the European Union and is pursuing increase of availability of justice and development of the child oriented system of justice in Georgia.
Judge of the Supreme Court introduced to the audience the activities in relation with coming into effect of the Juvenile Justice Code performed with the active support of the International Organizations. On the basis of the statistical data he also reviewed the legal outcome on the criminal cases instigated against the juveniles being in conflict with the Law. It is remarkable, that in the process of legal proceedings the best interests of children are necessarily determined. The Supreme Court plans to develop comments, monitor the process and participate in the multidisciplinary meetings for effective implementation in practice of the Juvenile Justice Code.
The Ambassador of the European Union, directors of the programs of development of UNICEF and UNDP were present at the Presentation. The project will cover the Juveniles, as well as the Adults. In the part of the system of Juvenile Justice the program will be directed by the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and in the part concerning the adults it will be directed by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
