The working meeting was held at the Supreme Court under the auspices of the Legal Service

On October 3, 2015 in the Supreme Court of Georgia working meeting was held, where the judges and the representatives of the legal service discussed the issues related to the expansion of the mandate of the Legal Service.

The chairperson of the Supreme Court welcomed the participants of the meeting. Nino Gvenetadze underlined the actuality of the topic of meeting and noted that involvement of the court and expression of positions of judges carries paramount importance for achieving more efficiency.

Head of the Legal Service Meliton Benidze reviewed the legislative amendments related to the expansion of mandate of legal service and criteria of insolvency. As a result of extension of mandate, the compulsory free legal service together with the Criminal cases already is spread out on Civil and Administrative cases.  As a result of amendments, in civil cases parties could take advantages of legal services while reviewing the disputes on domestic, heritage and social issues. 

During the meeting, participants discussed the legal conditions (the complexity and importance of case) of improving criteria that will be determined by the judge the involvement of mandatory legal service attorney in legal proceedings.

Participants also emphasized the errors revealed in practice.

The working meetings will be continued in the future and judges from district courts will also be involved in the discussions.
