Batumi City Court accomplished the case trial of spying

On July 6, 2011, Batumi City Court accomplished the high profile case trial regarding the spying and cooperation of Georgian citizens with foreign countries special services.
The court considered, that the convicted persons in vague time and circumstances started to cooperate with the officials of the Department of General Reconnaissance of General Staff of Armed Forces of the Ministry of Defense of Russian Federation and had an agent communication with them. They were obtaining and selecting different kind of information, which are considered to be the state secret information according to the Georgian law and systematically passed them to the above mentioned officials by the unknown channels. One part of the convicted persons, who were working on various positions at the Military Air Forces and Army of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia, acquired significant information regarding the Georgian armed forces, private staff of military aviation and arming, and military-political conditions of the country, were systematically transferring the information to the above mentioned officials of the Department of General Reconnaissance of General Staff of Armed Forces of the Ministry of Defense of Russian Federation.
The court studied the case materials, presented evidences, testimonies and the convicted persons – Eduard Abdulaev, Armen Gevorqian, Ruben Chiqoian, Tariel Abashidze, Gela Kakabadze, Gocha Diasamidze, Davit Meskhidze were convicted for spying and charged with deprivation of liberty for 11 years. Besides, Gela Kakabadze was convicted for illegal purchase and keeping of fire arm and was charged with imprisonment for 13 years and 6 months in length. Regarding Ruslan Galogre and Yuri Skrilnikov were convicted for cooperation with foreign countries special services against Georgia and both of them were charged with deprivation of liberty for 14 years.
