The Statement of the Supreme Court of Georgia

Published: 06/27/2013

On June 26, 2013 the members of the ruling coalition the critically evaluated participation of the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court Mr. Zaza Meishvili at the International Conference held on June 25, in Brussels.

The Judiciary does not intend to enter into political debates with the authors of the statement. We just want to state the following for the informing the public:

The judiciary has always been and will always continue to actively participate in all local and international events, which will focus on issues that are important to our country and will relate to the role of judiciary reform and generally to the role of the court in the democratic development of our country.

The presentation of the report about ongoing reforms in Georgian judiciary at the Brussels’ Conference was in advance planned for March 2013, when the Chairman of the Supreme Court, Mr. Konstantin Kublashvili was at the European Parliament in the framework of work visit. The speech presented at the conference by Mr. Zaza Meishvili related to the analysis of the current situation in the judiciary.

Active participation of the Court officials in conferences and workshops is the important precondition for the growth interest towards the judicial reform and for its successful implementation. It is unacceptable from politicians to meddle in the judiciary, and hampering the interrelation of the judicial authorities with the local and international society.
