The Chairman of the Supreme Court of Georgia Evaluated the Elections of the Judge Members of the High Council of Justice

Published: 06/10/2013

On June 10, 2013, the Chairman of the Supreme Court of Georgia Mr. Konstantin Kublashvili evaluated the results of the tenth (extraordinary) Judicial Conference at the meeting with the journalists.

Chairman of the Supreme Court stated that the elections were conducted in a completely transparent environment and all judges had an equal opportunity to discuss the merits of his/her candidacy with their colleagues and talk over within the judge corps about their visions of the judicial system development.

Mr. Konstantin Kublashvili considered the election of the new judge members of the HCoJ as the important step forward toward the strengthening of the judicial system.

"The judges once again proved that they can take very important decisions relating to the development of the judicial system. I think that election of the judge members of the HCoJ was the display of free will of judges and is another step forward toward the better future of the judicial system in whole. It is important that three of the seven judges elected by the HCoJ have received 2/3 majority of the attendants. The one, among of those three candidates, Mr. Zaza Meishvili won in the first round, and the other two judges received 2/3 of the voices of their colleagues in the second round. The remaining four members of the Council were elected by the majority of the Judicial Conference. This is a very important fact, which proves that the judge corps gives a vote of full confidence to the new members of the HCoJ” – said Mr. Konstantin Kublashvili.

The Chairman of the Supreme Court of Georgia expressed the readiness that the High Council of Justice will cooperate with all of them, whose aim is to strengthen the judicial system even more.
