The Session Of Administrative Committee Was Held At The Supreme Court Of Georgia

On April 30, 2013 the Session of Administrative Committee of Georgian Judges Association was held at the Supreme Court of Georgia.

After the meeting the Chairman of The Supreme Court of Georgia informed the journalists about the issues discussed during the session. The session of Administrative Committee was public and it was attended by the representatives of GYLA and the international project.

“During the first working meeting we have elected the secretariat of Judges Association and Administrative Committee that have to provide preparatory job in order to ensure the high level Conference. Also we have discussed the organizational matters, which should to be solved during the next few weeks. First of all, the amendments should be made in the Rules of Conference of Judges, because this is envisaged by the “Law on Common Courts of Georgia, which though is not entered into force, but when it enters into force the Rules of The Conference of Judges, must be altered. We desire to organize the whole event at a high level and therefore the Administrative Committee from today starts to take active steps towards this direction”, declared the Chairman of the Supreme Court during the briefing. 

Mr. Konstantin Kublashvili also talked about the main principle of the election of Judge Members of the High Council of Justice. “It is important to hold the elections openly and transparently. The judges do not need to be encouraged by anyone in order to hold the elections, especially by the Minister of Justice. The judges must make their own choice without any external interference and directives. It is also important that the judges are unanimous in these issues”.

At the end of the briefing, the Chairman of the Supreme Court of Georgia called upon the international and local NGOs, as well as everyone who is interested in strengthening the independence of the court system, to observe the process in order to prevent entering the certain initiatives from outside and judges should be given a free choice.
