Two Prisoners Were Released by the Supreme Court of Georgia

On December 26, 2012, two prisoners were released after the closing of the court session. According to the examination of the case materials presented before the court, cassation of convicted Shalva Tserediani was satisfied and cassation of convicted Amiran Sikharulidze was completely satisfied. Both prisoners were released immediately after the closing the court session.
Amiran Sikharulidze was convicted by the first instance and appellate courts and was charged with illegal money laundering. He was sentenced for 11 years imprisonment.
The convicted person lodged cassation claim before the Supreme Court of Georgia and requested for cancellation of judgment and justification. After the Supreme Court reviewed and discussed the case materials, it found Amiran Sikharulidze not guilty and released him from the court room.
On the same day, the Supreme Court examined the case of convicted Shalva Tserediani as well. According to the lower courts judgment Shalva Tsrediani was convicted for attempted murder. The court sentenced him 9 years imprisonment. The defendant requested to alter the verdict and provide repeated qualification of his actions.
During the oral hearings the court discussed presented case materials and found that, Tsrediani did not commit attempted murder, but grave bodily harm were inflicted in self-defense, while physical assault exceeded the level of self-defense and limits of necessary defense.
According to the court decision, Tsrediani was sentenced for 9 years and 3 months imprisonment and to serve the sentence started from March 23, 2012. After the calculation the imposed penalty was considered as served and he was released from the court room.
