International Conference in Tbilisi

April 4-5, 2011, Tbilisi, Hotel “Courtyard Marriott”, the international conference was opened on the following topic – “Independence, Impartiality, Effectiveness, Transparency, Competence –contemporary challenges of the court reform in South Caucasus”. The conference was opened by Konstantin Kublashvili, the Chairman of the Supreme Court and Ortwin Hennig, the Ambassador of German Federal Republic to Georgia.

The conference is organized by the Supreme Court of Georgia, German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) program and United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Up to hundred representatives from Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are taking part in the conference.
Representatives of Judicial Group on Strengthening Judicial Integrity of the Judiciary (Judicial Integrity Group), among them Nihal Jayawickrama, the coordinator of the group, Prof. Rudolf Mellinghoff, member of the group and judge of German Federal Constitutional Court, Lord Jonathan Mans, judge of the Supreme Court of UK, member of the group and Consultative Council of European Judges (CCJE), George Stava, Vise-President of European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) and Francesco Contini, Researcher of Research Institute of Judicial Systems of Bologna were invited on the conference as experts.

By the end of the conference, on the base of outcomes of the discussion, the representatives will adopt the recommendations regarding the directions of the reform.
