Chairperson of Seoul High Court at the Supreme Court of Georgia

On October 22, 2018, the acting chairperson of the Supreme Court of Georgia, chair of the Civil Cases Chamber, judge Mzia Todua held a meeting with the chairperson of Seoul High Court, Seol Beom Shik visiting Georgia within a working visit.   

The Korean guest is getting familiar with current state of judiciary functioning and institutional experience. The event was attended by the following judges of the Supreme Court of Georgia: Giorgi Shavliashvili, judge of the Criminal Cases Chamber; judges from Civil Cases Chamber-Nino Bakakuri, Zurab Dzlierishvili and Paata Katamadze; chair of the Administrative Cases Chamber, Vasil Roinishvili.

Mzia Todua  informed the guest upon functioning of the judicial institutions, ongoing reforms and procedures of recruiting and appointing judges. The meeting participants shared information on significant aspects of Korean and Georgian court practice. They mentioned the role and function of the High Council of Justice and criterion and standards of High School of Justice in selection procedures.

As the honorable guest mentioned, 3000 judges serve in the judicial system of South Korea, including 13 at the Supreme Court. The parties also talked about the measures to solve the problem of heavy caseload and timeframes in courts.

After the working meeting the honorable guest was shown around the historical building of the Supreme Court of Georgia and Museum of Justice.
