A Working Group Meeting over Judiciary Reforms

On March 9, 2018 a working group meeting was held at the Supreme Court of Georgia within the framework of interagency coordination council of the Criminal Law Reforms. The meeting, organized with mutual support of the Supreme Court of Georgia and Ministry of Justice of Georgia, concerned the Action Plan 2018-2022. It was supervised by the chairperson of the Supreme Court of Georgia, Ms. Nino Gvenetadze. Presentation of the Action Plan was performed by the head of Communication and Coordination unit of the Supreme Court of Georgia, Anna Shalamberidze. The meeting was attended by the deputy Minister of Justice, Alexandre Baramidze, representatives of state agencies, donor organizations, organizations working with legal issues and human rights protection. The participants had discussions upon the following: independence of the judiciary; improvement of transparency and accountability; selection and promotion procedures for judges, corresponding to disciplinary mechanism of the existing legislation; provision of more efficient system of cases electronic distribution; institutional development and expansion of common courts functioning; compliance of criminal law proceedings with international standards. The participants are expected to send their commentaries over the Action Plan, within a week.
