In the Supreme Court of Georgia the two-day conference on the topic of “terrorism, legislation and judicial practice – New challenges in the counter-terrorism policy” was officially opened

On November 2, 2016 in the Supreme Court of Georgia the two-day conference on the topic of “terrorism, legislation and judicial practice – New challenges in the counter-terrorism policy” was officially opened. The conference is co-organized by The Supreme Court of Georgia and the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law. It is dedicated 35-year anniversary of cooperation between Georgia and the Max Plank Institute. For participating in the event the delegations of academic members of criminal law field from Germany, Armenia and Azerbaijan are officially visiting Georgia.
Conference delegates were welcomed and recent national legislative amendments passed for the purpose of relevant criminal counter-terrorism policy determination were introduced to the participants by: the chairperson of the Supreme Court and High Council of Georgia, Nino Gvenetadze; The First Deputy of the chairman of the Parliament, Manama Kobakhidze; The Deputy Minister of Justice, Gocha Lortkipanidze; The Deputy of General Prosecutor, Giorgi Gabitashvili; The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Shalva Khutsishvili and the Chairman of Counter-terrorism Center, Irakli Chimakadze. The participants were also addressed by the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia, Christian Urse and the Professor of the Max Plank Institute, Hans-jorg Albrecht.
The increasing tendency of the terrorist acts represents one of the major challenges for the modern world. For the purpose of Global security, the international community by active co-ordinated efforts addresses to elaborate and plan effective counter-terrorism mechanisms. Thus, the discussion and comparative analysis on Counter-terrorism Policy and the preventive measures of the mentioned challenge represents the aim of the Conference. In the frame of the two-day meeting, Georgian and Foreign academics in the field of Criminal Law, as well as, the representatives of the relevant Government Bodies and Judges will have reports on the contemporary international approaches and practices in relation to the legal aspects of counter-terrorism policy. The Delegates will be granted the opportunity to discuss effective counter-terrorism Measures based on the legislation and judicial practice of Foreign Countries.
At the beginning of the Conference, in relation to the 35-year anniversary of the cooperation between Georgia and the Max Planck Institute, the Dr. Eliko Tsiklauri-Lamakhi gave presentation on details of successful cooperation development history of the Georgian-German legal society.
