The Chairperson of the Supreme Court and High Council of Justice, Ms. Nino Gvenetadze took part in the Conference: “Juvenile Justice, Achievements and Challenges.”

On May 6 of 2016 the Chairperson of the Supreme Court and High Council of Justice Ms. Nino Gvenetadze took part in the Conference :”Juvenile Justice, Achievements and Challenges”, held with the support of the Council of Europe and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The first persons of the executive power, local and international NGOs and Heads of the Missions also participated in the work of the Conference
The results of the work performed by the Prosecutor’s office in the sphere of the Juvenile Justice, were presented at the Conference, as well as analyses of the causes of offences, practice of usage of the alternative mechanisms of the criminal prosecution and other problems related to putting in practice of the Juvenile Justice Code.
“I have got statistical data, showing the fact of dropping to the minimum of the number of offenders. The practice of exploiting the alternative methods by the Prosecutor is frequent and the Court has the right of returning of the case to the Prosecutor for the diversion program. We can be proud of the fact, that the number of the convicted and sentenced prisoners significantly decreased, as it means that the Code proved useful “ - said the Chairperson of the Supreme Cout and High Council of Justice Ms. Nino Gvenetadze, while talking about the “Juvenile Justice Code.”
The Juvenile Justice Code has come into force in January of the current year and intends to create for the juveniles under 18 being in conflict with the law, a special system of Justice in compliance with the European standards and the convention on the Rights of the Child of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
