Nino Gvenetadze met UN’s Special Reporteur on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography – Ms. Maud de Boer-Buquicchio.
The UN’s special rapporteur within the frames of her mandate expressed her interest in obtaining information on the investigative actions being carried out and types of imposed penalties on the offenders being arrested on the charge of sale of children, children prostitution and child pornography, as well as on the particular mechanisms being used during the process of administration of justice guaranteeing the defense of the Rights of Juveniles and other gender sensitive issues.
Within the frames of the meeting Nino Gvenetadze provided the UN’s special rapporteur with the information on the criminal cases concerning offences committed against the Juveniles and on the due-process rights of the Juvenile victims.
At the meeting Nino Gvenetadze also talked with the UN’s special rapporteur about the Juvenile Justice Code and the arrangements concerning its introducing into effect. It is remarkable, that the system of Juvenile Justice in accordance with the international standards for the criminal prosecution places a priority on the mediation and institutions of release of juvenile from criminal liability and punishment and is significantly oriented to the rehabilitation and integration into the society of the Juveniles being in trouble with the law.
UN’s Human Rights Officer Ms. Nekane Lavin also attended the meeting.
UN’s special rapporteur arrived in Georgia on April 11. Within the frames of the official visit are also planned the meetings with the representatives of the executive, legislative and court authorities, as well as with the representatives of NGO’s and business sector. On April 18, UN’s special rapporteur will accomplish her visit with the summarizing Press Conference.
