Nino Gvenetadze welcomed the members of the Committee of Legal Affairs of European Parliament

Nino Gvenetadze welcomed the delegation of European Parliament officially visiting Georgia. The delegation consists of: Chairman of the Committee of Legal Affairs, member of People’s Party Pavel Svoboda and members of Committee of Legal Affairs: Ms. Francesca Meltraman, Mr. Francisco Ruiz-Risuenos, Ms. Heidi Hautala and Mr. Magnus Nordanskog.
Chairperson of the Supreme Court and High Council of Justice Ms. Nino Gvenetadze greeted the members of the delegation. Ms. Nino Gvenetadze talked with the members of the delegation about the challenges existing in the system of Justice. Chairperson of the Supreme Court and High Council of Justice surveyed the legislative initiatives planned within the third wave of the Justice reform, aiming at establishment of the high standard of the institutional independence of Justice and individual defense of judges.
Ms. Nino Gvenetadze gave a special emphasis to implementing in the Common Courts the project of the electronic and random allocation of cases. “The existing mechanisms of allocation of the cases according to the alphabet and order will be replaced with the automatic electronic allocation mechanism of random and equal assignment of judges; this will remove more than one awkward question concerning the matter of disinterest of judges hearing a particular case and regulate the matters of discontent among judges concerning the problems of defects in distribution of cases and liquidates nonconfidence of the sides of judicial proceedings due to the allocating a particular case to a particular judge” – said the chairperson of the Supreme Court.
At the Meeting Ms. Nino Gvenetadze surveyed the reform suggestions, concerning establishment of the independent institution of inspectors and the improvement of the standard of eligibility of cessation appeals in the terms of effective use of European Human Rights Court case law. Chairperson of the Supreme Court marked, that in Strasbourg, France within the official visit to Chairman of European Court of Human rights Mr. Guido Raimondi was reached an agreement on creating a Georgian analogous version of the electronic search system (HUDOC) of the decisions of European Court. During the meeting the sides talked about the role of the High Council of Justice as a garantor of independence.
Ms. Nino Gvenetadze emphasized the fact, that the main aim of every planned activity is building of trust of society towards Justice.
Members of European Parliament expressed their gratitude towards Ms. Nino Gvenetadze for providing them with the information and the efforts made for developing of Justice.
Within the meeting the members of delegation listened to the position of Chairperson about the issues of interest in the question and answer mode.
Finally, Chairperson of the Supreme Court and High Council of Justice Ms. Nino Gvenetadze and the members of the delegation of European Parliament exchanged the souvenirs.
