The Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Georgia and the High Council of Justice Ms. Nino Gvenetadze solemnly opened the building of the city court where the witnesses will be interrogated

On February 23, 2016 the Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Georgia and the High Council of Justice Nino Gvenetadze solemnly opened the court building that became the part of Tbilisi City Court, where the interrogation of witnesses will take place.

The Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Georgia and the High Council of Justice showed to invited guests the city court building located at Bulachauri street. According to the statement of Nino Gvenetadze whole country’s judicial system is ready for enacting the new rules dealing with interrogation of witnesses.

“This is the building of Tbilisi City Court, where under the surveillance and supervision of judge the interrogation of witness will take place on the bases of submitted motions of investigation and defense. The interrogation will be conducted by the party who requested the questioning of a witness. The process will be leaded by judge. The interrogation will be behind closed doors. These mainly will be the witnesses that refuse to be questioned as by defense lawyer as well as by prosecution. The phenomenon of interrogation of a witness to the court and the assurance of the high performance of these rights provide the guarantee to interrogated person that he/she will be protected during the interrogation. There will be no threats, blackmail and extortion against him/her during the testimony”- mentioned the Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Georgia and the High Council of Justice at the opening ceremony.

The members of the High Council of Justice, representatives of Ministry of Justice, Chairman of the Parliaments Legal Affairs Committee, Mr. Vakhtang Khmaladze attended the opening ceremony.
