The Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Georgia and High Council of Justice Nino Gvenetadze under the framework of the official visit met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland

On January 28, 2016 the Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Georgia and High Council of Justice Nino Gvenetadze under the framework of official visit, in France, Strasbourg, met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland.

Nino Gvanetadze introduced to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe the activities planned within the third phrase reform of judiciary. The Chairperson of the Supreme Court and High Council of Justice Nino Gvenetadze noted at the meeting that the major priority of the reform presents creation and strengthening the independent and impartial judiciary. Nino Gvenetadze drew attention to the established approaches of European Convention on Human Rights and underlined the particular role of The Supreme Court, as the highest and final court of cassation. Chairperson noted that at this stage by the participation of Council of Europe experts creation of Georgian analogue of the electronic search system of European Court’s decisions (HUDOC) is underway. The mentioned program will significantly contribute the improvement of quality of decisions’ motivation part of the legal reasoning made by the Supreme and the lower courts.

The parties discussed the future prospects of bilateral cooperation in the field of judiciary.

The meeting was also attended by the Council of Europe Permanent Representative of Georgia Konstantine Korkelia.
