The Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Georgia and High Council of Justice met with the Ambassador of Germany to Georgia

On November 24, 2015 the Chairperson of the Supreme Court and the High Council of Justice, Nino Gvenetadze met with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Germany to Georgia Bettina Cadenbach.

Nino Gvenetadze spoke with the ambassador regarding the importance of third stage reform of judiciary and on the planned activities in this respect. Chairperson reviewed the activation of judicial disciplinary proceedings and necessity of establishment of self-assessment and accountability of judges and the issues of electronic distribution of cases.

Chairperson of the Supreme Court particularly underscored the German counterparts’ active support towards ongoing or planned changes of judiciary reform of our country.  Nino Gvenetatdze stated: “The first state that recognized the independence of Georgia in the early nineties - was the United Germany. After this Georgia launched the legal reform, which was necessary for transition from state-commanding economy to a market economy. The reform at the beginning was started with the private and administrative law directions. Germany was the first state that played the crucial role in this regard.”

At the meeting parties discussed the future plans of bilateral cooperation.   

The meeting was attended by the German Embassy Cultural Attaché Christopher Prontseki. At the end of the meeting guests visited the historic building of the Supreme Court and museum of judiciary.
